Beside Myself is an account of one woman's struggle through her childhood and adulthood with the sexual molestation from two of her brothers, her mother's alcoholism and narcissism and her father's betrayal after her divorcing the father of her two children.

Ms. Fender writes with excruciating pain about her twin brother's diagnosis of HIV, depression and assisted suicide by two family members. Besides her betrayal and eventual estrangement from her family of origin, Ms. Fender recounts her travels through Europe and the Middle East on her own with amusement and vivid details.

Beside Myself is for anyone who loves to read memoirs and for anyone who is interested in how a woman endured years of abuse from her family of origin and came out stronger on the other side of it. Ms. Fender found Codependents Anonymous which has been significant in her recovery and her struggles with the continued abuse and harassment from her family members.
