A devotional with a twist!

This book of thought provokers and creative discovery doesn’t tell you what to believe, but instead moves you toward personal and deeper thought about today’s world and your faith. It’s you and God! Doebler and Rice prompt you with modern cultural themes, allowing you to respond and journal on your own. Small moments, big decisions, constant messages and technology battle for our attention - often taking our hearts and minds off the Lord. Will we allow this, or will we Ditch the Mainstream and the power it wants to have over believers today? In this book, the authors challenge you to use God’s Word to find God’s ways, in a messy world.

Siblings Cathi Brese Doebler and Sandra Brese Rice started on this book as co-authors after writing on their own first. Cathi is the author of “Ditch the Joneses, Discover Your Family: How to Thrive on Less Than Two Incomes!” Sandra is a contributor to “Chicken Soup for the Soul: Devotional Stories for Women” and the “Time with God” series produced by Bethesda Lutheran Communities. Bringing together their love of writing and faith-based views, they teamed up for “Ditch the Mainstream” over tea, coffee and lively conversation in Western New York.

About Sandra Brese Rice (Co-Author)

Sandra Brese Rice

Sandra Brese Rice is a project manager, editor, writer, curriculum writer, and the Religious Resource Creation Director for Bethesda Lutheran Communities. For the last 14 years, Rice has had the chance to support people with disabilities with worship and growing in their faith. As a former Lutheran school teacher for 13 years, Sandra Brese Rice has always been a story teller. Her articles, classroom lessons, and devotions usually derive from real-life happenings, silliness, and predicaments she has faced at one time or another. She keeps notebooks and journals in every nook and cranny of her day just in case she needs to write this down. But those who know her well generally see her coloring and doodling in journals more often than frantically writing her thoughts.

A mother of two, she lives in Western New York with her husband. She enjoys date nights, exploring new places, her Life Group, and singing in the worship band at church. Sandra is currently working on a children’s book with her neighbor and friend, "Ethan and God, a Children’s Book for Hospital Stays and Illness".
