When Cyrus king of Persia defeated the Babylonians, the God of Israel stirred up his spirit to proclaim throughout his kingdom that he had been appointed to rebuild Yahweh’s temple. Cyrus also declared that whoever belonged to the people of Yahweh might go up to Jerusalem in Judah.

Jerusalem Bound! continues the story of the wise man Daniel’s adopted grandson, Seth, and his household when they feel God has called them to restore his temple. They decide to make the perilous journey as part of a trading caravan financed by the Jewish bankers that Seth works for headed to Phoenicia. Subsequently Ezra the priest-scribe is granted favor by Artaxerxes king of Persia to lead a group of Judean exiles from Babylon to Jerusalem, where he diligently instructs the Jews how to live according to the Law of Moses.

Years later Artaxerxes sends his cupbearer, Nehemiah, to Jerusalem as governor. Defying the enemies of his people, Nehemiah rebuilds the city wall and restores public worship. All the while, the inspired prophets Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi faithfully preach God’s message of comfort and conviction to the returnees.
