As early as he can remember, Chance Jackson wanted to be a cop, a policeman in a blue uniform just like his father. Following graduation from the Denver Police Academy, Chance had his dream job, but only to find that, like many other jobs, it can only be exciting sometimes, often boring, and, almost always stressful. And, he learned that with the risks there were occasional temptations.

After meeting and marrying “Sammy”, they both learn to not talk about the dark side of police work - the stress, the fear, and the troubling thoughts that cause constant worry that the husband, the father, the man in blue may not come home again.

As times change in the twenty-first century, news reports of cop killings become more commonplace. The fear factor leads Chance to chase another side of police work and he sets his sights on a position as detective - out of uniform and away from the daily grind of patrolling the streets. While pursuing that goal, a chance meeting with a stranger leads Chance down a path that could result in his desired promotion. However, if unsuccessful, his efforts could lead to his downfall and possibly even get him relieved of his duties.

That one meeting with a stranger creates a follow-up story with new friendships and surprising hardships that are both unexpected and traumatic. The events are life changing for Chance, his family and others. Chance’s future success hinges on his ability to outthink the one guy who is trying to outsmart him resulting in a fast-paced and dramatic conclusion.
