About Karla Locke (Seattle, Washington Author)

Karla Locke

I have always wanted to tell stories.

My journey as a writer started in my late 20’s when I started reading romance novels and thought, “I can do this.” Yea right! Who had the time? – life, children, jobs, and I am sure other important stuff, got in my way. But life as a funny way of coming full circle, the children are now grown and my work revolves around writers. I started a business that provides services to Indie authors who self-publish. It was the beginning of a dream.

I was invited to speak about self-publishing at a Skagit Valley Writers League meeting. This was my first in introduction to SVWL. This group was exactly what I needed to help jumpstart a life-long dream, so I joined. Before I knew it - all of that inspiration rubbed off and got me back on the right path. The path I was meant for.

I self-published my first short story, My Undoing, in 2013. Now I am hooked and I am finishing the first draft of my fourth book.

I have always been a daydreamer. I made up stories to escape reality, well, because reality isn’t always fun. What influences me as a writer is – reading. Reading is like being a daydreamer; you can visit other places, meet other people, and leave the world for a short time. It is also a great way to learn, to study how other writers tell their stories.
