In this book, takes the Young World Travelers back in time as farmers at the Queens County Farm, warriors at Fort Totten in Bayside, and fair-goers at Flushing Meadows Park which was home of both New York World fairs in 1939 and 1964.

Born and raised in Queens, NY, Demetra spent most of her young life in the halls of St. Demetrios Greek-American Parochial School in Astoria, NY, which at that time was one of the largest Greek communities in the country.

She attended 'St. D' from kindergarten through her senior year in high school. It was there where she met her late-husband Constantinos 'Gus' Lecourezos, who took her to her prom. They led separate lives for 21 years, and then bumped into each other on a street in Manhattan. They were married two years later, and the following year welcomed their daughter, Katerina, into the world. When Katerina was just three years old, Gus was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and lost his battle a year later. Soon after, in 2010, Demetra and Katerina moved to Tarpon Springs, FL to begin their new life. Once again, cancer hit home. Demetra in now fighting her own battle with cancer.

Ready, Set, OPA! Is a portion of Demetra's very first writing – a screenplay regarding Greece. When she began writing it, over 10 years ago, it was with the intent of using it as a teaching tool to educate Katerina about her heritage.

This educational series is intended to be a ‘reference library’ of travel from a child’s perspective. From story to story, the Young World Travelers™ share the history of each place they visit, its’ cultures, architecture, modes of travel, currency, food, and music to name a few.

The educational aspect, along with the uplifting camaraderie combine to offer a new form of learning: ‘edu-tainment’!!
