Volunteering at a free health clinic or cleaning bathrooms in a Catholic Worker house, John Reynolds had a heart for the poor. He spent his days off helping others. But that was the problem, with a busy family and an active surgical practice he had very little spare time. When a life-altering tragedy strikes, he knew he had to make a change.

Whether working for environmental improvement in Belize, performing surgery in poverty-stricken Uganda, or demonstrating for higher wages in Kansas City, John’s journey is intentional, spiritual and universal.

An unconventional love story, In My Time of Need is uplifting and encouraging. It finds God in simple acts of humility, mercy, and love. Filled with grace and humor, it envisions a way of approaching life in which people put faith into action and work together for the common good.

Brandon Pomeroy

As a surgeon, Brandon Pomeroy, M.D. has taken part in medical missions to Uganda, Mali, and India, delivering healthcare in areas that have great need. He is a co-founder of Grace Missions, Inc. which provides financial and prayer support for a growing Christian primary school in rural Mali.

In our busy lives we are often only able to see things superficially and quickly. When information comes in headlines and sarcastic quotes, when our actions are motivated by fear rather than hope, he wanted an alternative. He founded a non-profit publishing company for his own books and for those with similar feelings. Working to be a part of the solution, carefully mending and repairing what feels nearly torn apart, he hopes Elpida Press is an oasis of positivity and reconciliation for many.

Brandon lives with his family in Kansas City.
