Recusant – Book Two of The Brin Archives
In this sequel to Hegira, the Brin are thriving on their new world, but will greed, prejudices, and old rivalries tear apart their grand civilization? Maliche Rocker, descendant of The Saviors, uncovers a terrible secret and must fight those in power, including members of his own family, to save thousands of innocents from the cruelty of his own people.
Maliche’s brother, Selan, next in line to assume to role of Head of The Assembly for the Brin, becomes entangled with the Mining Guild. The guild leader, Raencert, lures Selan into helping keep track of Maliche’s activities. Maliche’s visions continue as he reads further into Maripa’s diary. He learns of the first encounter between the Brin and the two Kolandi brothers. The Brin are barely hanging on as their crops are dying, succumbing to a local virus they cannot fight.
A series of battles ensue between the Kolandi and the Brin Mining Guild, Maliche’s forces. The fates of both cultures lie in the outcome. Will the Mining guild’s superior technology and power overwhelm the Kolandi? Can the descendant of The Rockers, aided by his ancestor’s biocomputer, succeed in freeing the enslaved Kolandi against impossible odds? Can the ancient promises of the Skae be trusted? Only time will tell.
