What happens when you wake up one day in your comfortable, climate-controlled, corporate career in middle management and say, “Enough! Money isn’t everything. I want to make a difference in our world.” This stream of thought launched 47-year-old Delta Donohue into an adventure that would last over seven years and involve volunteering in an orphanage in India, elephants and camels, starting a social enterprise that partners with village women, more elephants and camels – along with several monkeys and one particular cow. The First Taste Belongs to the Gods is a deeply personal collection of stories and poetic reflections chronicling these years of going back and forth to India and the interior journey it prompted. This unconventional, poignant travelogue will have you laughing, crying and asking yourself, “What life do I dream of?”

The First Taste Belongs to the Gods recently won 1st Prize at the CIPA EVVY awards in the travel category.

About Delta Donohue (Denver, Colorado Author)

Delta Donohue

Delta Donohue is a Colorado speaker, poet, playwright, and author. What happens when you wake up one day in your comfortable, climate-controlled, corporate career in middle management and say, “Enough! Money isn’t everything. I want to make a difference in our world.” This stream of thought launched 47-year-old Donohue into an adventure that would last over seven years and involve volunteering in an orphanage in India, elephants and camels, starting a social enterprise partnering with village women, more elephants and camels, along with several monkeys and one particular cow, all while encountering the friend of a lifetime. The First Taste Belongs to the Gods is a deeply personal collection of stories and poetic reflections chronicling these years of going back and forth to India and the interior journey it prompted. This unconventional, poignant travelogue will have you laughing, crying, and asking yourself, “What life do I dream of?”

Donohue is known most recently for her one-woman show Unfolding: A Journey Through the Middle of Life, where she performed to sold-out crowds in Denver and Boulder. She does frequent poetry readings and a yearly performance with her mother, another published poet, titled – Mother and Daughter: Conversation of a Lifetime. She is currently putting the finishing touches on her second book – Glancing Through the Rear View which will be available early in 2019.

Donohue currently lives in Denver and works teaching English as a Second Language to immigrants. She is the proud mother of two (three if you count the cat who deserves to be counted) and grandmother of two delightful grandchildren. A favorite past-time is growing roof-tall sunflowers, then asking her mother to turn them into beautiful arrangements. You can learn more about Donohue at her website www.DeltaDonohue.com.
