Born and raised near Spencer, IA, a partner in a family farm near Rockford, IA for several years, & secretary at Mercy in Mason City, IA for 33 years, Karen is all Iowan. She retired from the local hospital after 33 years where she worked first as a Unit Clerk in the Pediatric Department for 17 years, then transferred to the Behavioral Services Outpatient Clinic as department secretary until her retirement in 2013. Mother of two adult children and grandmother of four, she continues to call Mason City home.

Children’s books - "The Many Hats of Jeremiah Porter,” "My Hot Air Balloon," and "Littlest Penguin." Her cozy mystery/romance, “Mystery at Burr Oak Estate: A Dog Named Wang,” was published as a tribute to her mother, whose dog was named Wang (short for Wanger Doops). Read the book to learn about the story of how Wang got his name. She recently published another children's book which she co-authored with her granddaughter - "What's That Strange Noise?" Two more children's books are in the publishing process - “A Daisy for Sarah” and "Snow of the Iditarod."
